The Officials of Uganda High Commission Pretoria, led by Charge D'Affaires a.i. Mr Julius Kivuna yesterday (23/5/2017) met with officials from the University of Pretoria in charge of The MasterCard Foundation Scholars Program (MCFSP). The Foundation targets academically qualified, yet economically disadvantaged young people in South Africa, the SADC region and the rest of Africa, with the potential to contribute to the transformation of the continent.

Currently the number of Ugandan students enrolled in the University of Pretoria under the MasterCard Foundation which is a FULL scholarship Programme is 10 with 7 in the  Post-graduate Programme and 3 in the Under-graduate Programme.

Ms. Asanda Vumazonke the MasterCard Foundation recruitment officer informed the officials that the Institution was encouraged by the positive turn out though low numbers of Entries from the previous years dating from 2014, and the MasterCard Foundation seeks to increase the number of Ugandan Entries with the planned intake for 2018 slated at 40 Post graduate Entries and 35 Undergraduate Entries specifically in the areas of Economics & Management Sciences,  Engineering & Natural and Agricultural Sciences. Community service is a necessary component of the Program with all students giving back to disadvantaged communities.

She also informed the High Commission officials that in order to achieve this target of the increased number of students enrollment, the Recruitment Officers from the University of Pretoria will visit Uganda between 4th - 10th June 2017 and visit a number of institutions and civil society organisations in a bid to sensitize the Ugandan Public of these opportunities.

The identified scholars need to demonstrate a commitment to making a difference in their communities, having faced significant barriers to accessing and completing quality tertiary education. The Program provides a comprehensive scholarship, mentoring and counseling, academic support and access to work readiness skills.

All potential MasterCard Foundation Scholars Program (MCFSP) applicants for academic year 2017 have to apply at the respective faculty FIRST before applying for the MasterCard Foundation Scholars Program.  Once your application has been approved then you may apply for the MasterCard Foundation Scholars Program.

No MCFSP applications will be considered if applications are not sent to the faculty first.
