PRESIDENT MUSEVENI, QATAR PRIME MINISTER HOLD TALKS

President Yoweri Museveni has held a meeting with the Qatari Prime Minister, Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al-Thani in Doha today.

The Prime Minister, who called on President Museveni at his residence, said Qatar was interested in exploring investment opportunities in Uganda and proposed that the two countries create a coordination team led by two ministers to oversee this.

President Museveni, who said the two countries could cooperate in terms of energy, infrastructure and innovation, nominated Investment State Minister Evelyn Anite to lead the coordination team.

"We can work in two ways, through government and the private sector," President Museveni said. "The private sector can invest and process food, textiles, minerals and tourism while government cooperation can look at energy, roads, technical education, innovations and industrial parks."

Premier Abdullah bin Nasser said that Qatar has many opportunities Ugandans can tap into, citing their preparations to host the 2022 World Cup among projects that skilled Ugandans can take advantage of and offer labour.
