INCOMING FINLAND AMBASSADOR TO UGANDA PRESENTS COPIES OF CREDENTIALS TO STATE MINISTER OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS

Hon. Oryem Okello meets the incoming Finland Ambassador to Uganda, Ambassador Fernandez Tarja Ovvokki at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs

Ambassador Fernandez Tarja Ovvokki the new Finland Ambassador to Uganda presented her working copies of credentials to the Minister of State for Foreign affairs Hon. Okello Oryem at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Kampala on the 17 January 2018.

The Minister congratulated the ambassador designate on her new appointment in Uganda

Ambassador Fernandez thanked the minister for welcoming her and she stated that she was looking forward to further strengthening the bilateral relationship between Uganda and Finland.

The two discussed how to address the global threat of terrorism by increasing the security cooperation between their two countries. 

Ambassador Fernandez Tarja Ovvokki joined Ministry of Foreign affairs in 1994 and has served as Desk Officer, Department for Culture and Media, Ministry for Foreign Affairs Deputy Head of Mission, Embassy of Finland, Tel Aviv, Adviser to the Under-Secretary of State (Development), Ministry for Foreign Affairs Director of the Unit for the European Common Foreign and Security policy Charge d' Affaires a.i., Head of Mission, Embassy of Finland, Pristina, Counselor, Permanent Mission of Finland to the United Nations New York and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Finland to the Republic of Kenya, the Federal Republic of Somalia, the Republic of Seychelles, the State of Eritrea, the Republic of Uganda, Permanent Representative to UNEP and UN-HABITAT

She has a Master of International Politics, University of Tampere 1993, International Training, six month post- graduate course, University of Helsinki 1994 and a numerous training courses on Diplomacy, Negotiations and Leadership.

JOINT STATEMENT ON THE OCCASION OF THE VISIT TO UGANDA OF PRIME MINISTER SHRI NARENDRA MODI 24-25 JULY 2018, 25th-July 2018

At the invitation of His Excellency Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, President of the Republic of Uganda, the Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi undertook a State Visit to Uganda from 24 - 25 July 2018.  He was accompanied by a high-level delegation of senior officials of the Government of India and a large business delegation. This was the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister in 21 years.

There is urgent need to make the existing cordial bilateral relations between the Republics of Benin and Uganda more dynamic so as to benefit the people of the two friendly countries.
