UGANDA AND MAURITIUS COMMIT TO STRENGTHEN BILATERAL RELATIONS

Hon. Okello Oryem, Minister for State for Foreign Affairs ( International Cooperation ) of the Republic of Uganda, earlier this week met with H.E. ?Mr. D. BUSGEETH , the High Commissioner of the Republic of Mauritius to Uganda, resident in Addis- Ababa Ethiopia.  The Meeting took place at the Ministry Headquarters.


The High Commissioner  called on the Minister to discuss matters of Bilateral and International concern that are of mutual benefit to both Uganda and Mauritius.


Hon. Oryem, welcomed the High Commissioner  to Uganda and commended the good working relations between both countries. The Minister further reitarated that these relations are firmly rooted in history and based on common values which is the mainspring for advancing the two countries’ shared strategic objectives and achieving peace, prosperity and progress for the people of both countries.


H.E. Busgeeth conveyed a message of gratitude to the Minister for the warm reception accorded to him. He further agreed that Mauritius and Uganda enjoy warm cordial relations that continue to grow from strength to strength.


The  Meeting  discussed and reviewed areas of further cooperation including signing of a Bilateral Cooperation Agreement, cooperation in the field of ICT, Education and research, trade and investments.


In attendance was Amb. Richard Kabonero, Uganda's High Commissioner to the United Republic of  Tanzania, the newly appointed Honorary Consul to Mauritius, Mr. Amos Nzeyi as well as officials from the line Department of the Ministry.


Later in the day, a ceremony was held in Kololo to officially open up the Office of the Consulate of Mauritius in Uganda. This was graced by Hon. Okello Oryem, Amb. Charles Ssentongo the Chief of Protocol, Members of the Diplomatic Corp, Government officials, members of the business community to mention but a few.
