Hon. Sam Kutesa Meets African Union (AU) Commissioner For Peace And Security

Hon. Sam .K. KUTESA the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uganda, this afternoon met with H.E. Smail CHERGUI, the African Union Commissioner for Peace and Security at the Ministry Headquarters.


H.E. Chergui, called on the Office of the Minister to discuss matters of Regional and Political concern. Hon. Sam Kutesa welcomed the Commissioner and commended the existing cordial working relations between Uganda and the African Union specifically the Commission for Peace and Security.


The Minister further reiterated Uganda's commitment to promoting Peace and Security in not only the region but in the entire African continent in the spirit of Pan-Africanism.

 
The Commissioner conveyed a message gratitude to the Government of Uganda for its continued commitment, dedication and tireless efforts of the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) for contributing to conflict resolution in Somalia. The Ugandan contingent remains the largest troop contingent in AMISOM based in Sector 1 which comprises of Banadir (Mogadishu), Middle and Lower Shabelle regions. These troops are supporting the Somali Security Forces to defeat terrorists groups and restore peace.

 
The Meeting further discussed matters of mutual benefit  pertaining to Regional, Political and Security affairs.  In attendance was Amb. Patrick Mugoya, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Gen David Muhoozi,  the Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) of the Uganda People's Defence Forces (UPDF), and other Senior Officials of the Ministry.
