Amb. Patrick Mugoya Hails Women in Foreign Service

The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uganda, Amb Patrick MUGOYA, this morning lauded the Female staff of the Ministry for their devotion, dedication and commitment in service not only to the Ministry but to the Nation at large.

Amb. Mugoya made these remarks at an event held at the Ministry Headquarters to commemorate the International Women's Day to specifically celebrate Women in the Foreign Service both home and abroad. He further commended the efforts of the female staff in execution of their duties in Promoting Uganda's Interests abroad as well as contributing to National development.

International Women's Day takes place on March 8th and is a day set aside for recognizing the economic, social, cultural, and political accomplishments of women and celebrate Women's Rights. The first gathering marking International Women's Day took place in 1911.

This year's Women's Day Celebration was held under the theme, "Celebrating 25 years of the 1995 Constitution: Milestones on promoting gender equality and women's empowerment in Uganda". The National Celebrations took place in Malukhu Grounds, Mbale District and all the Female Heads of Mission representing Uganda in the various High Commissions and Embassies were appreciated by the President H.E. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, and First Lady Hon. Janet Kataha Museveni Minister of Education and Sports.

While delivering her remarks, Amb. Juliet Semambo KALEMA, a Member of African Union Commission on International Law (AUCIL) who previously served in Uganda's Foreign Service as the former Head of the African Union department conveyed a message of gratitude to the Permanent Secretary and Ministry's leadership for undertaking this initiative to celebrate Women in the Foreign Service. She further called upon the female staff to continue in diligent service and strive higher to serve the Nation in the International arena.

Also present at the event was Mr. Mark Sseremba the Commissioner Human Resources  and Mr. Steven Kyatereka the Under Secretary.
