Uganda and Zimbabwe Commit to Strengthen Bilateral Cooperation

Amb. Kintu Nyago, Uganda's Ag. High Commissioner to the Republic of South Africa met with Mr. T. Muranga the Ag. Director for Africa, Asia and Pacific of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Zimbabwe to discuss issues of bilateral interest. 

The Acting High Commissioner was accompanied by Ms. Sarah Nakamya Counselor and Ms. Joy Jogole the Immigration Attache.

In Oct, 2019 during the State Visit of H.E President Emerson Mnangagwa to Uganda for the 57th Independence Anniversary, H.E President Museveni and his guest in a joint communique gave a directive to establish a Joint Commission of Cooperation (JCC) between Uganda and Zimbabwe.

The process of initiating the establishment of the JCC had been stalled by the global lock down due to the COVID - 19 Pandemic.

Top on the agenda, Amb. Kintu and his host Mr. Muranga discussed initiating the process of establishing the Joint Cooperation Commission and the potential areas of cooperation. Their discussions also touched on developments in their respective capitals ranging from social issues, trade, politics, security, climate change, economy to concerns of their diaspora communities in each other's countries. 

Both parties committed to kick starting the follow-up process of implementing the directive of establishing the JCC as soon as possible.
