Protocol and Consular

The Protocol Department led by the Chief of Protocol /Marshall of Diplomatic Corps has responsibility for an extensive range of services.  These include ensuring that all State and official functions, ceremonies, visits and administration of diplomatic affairs are conducted in a manner that maintains the required dignity, decorum and efficiency and in harmony with established international protocol practice.

To fulfill this mandate the Department:

  • Organizes and coordinates State and Official visits of Heads of State and Government, Ministers and other high ranking Foreign dignitaries to Uganda.
  • Organizes and coordinates visits of H.E the President, Vice President, Ministers and other high ranking Government officials/delegations.
  • Organizes State and Official/ National Ceremonies in conjunction with other Ministries.
  • Coordinates the hosting of International  Conferences, meetings and summits in Uganda.
  • Provides guidance to all government ministries, departments and agencies on matters of Protocol.
  • Accreditation of Diplomats and staff of Diplomatic Missions and International Organizations accredited to Uganda.
  • Coordinates the presentation of Credentials by Ambassadors/High Commissioners accredited to Uganda.
  • Manages the extension and provision of privileges and immunities to the Diplomatic Corps/Missions and International Organizations (and Honorary Consuls) in accordance with the Vienna Convention.
  • Arranges and coordinates appointments for foreign dignitaries with National leaders and government officials.
  • Ensures the safety of Diplomats and all staff of International Organizations accredited to Uganda and all Mission Properties.
  • Clears VIP aircraft for over flight and landing permits. 
  • Manages the VIP Lounge at Entebbe International Airport.
  • Provides Consular Services to Ugandans abroad.
