UGANDA AND AU LAUNCH OFFICIAL PREPARATIONS FOR JANUARY CAADP SUMMIT
Minister of Foreign Affairs Gen. Odongo Jeje Abubakhar, Minister of Agriculture, Animal Industries and Fisheries, Hon. Frank Tumwebaze and the AU Commissioner for Agriculture, Rural Development, Blue Economy, and Sustainable Environment (ARBE)of the African Union Commission, H.E. Josefa Leonel Correia Sacko, on December 19th 2024, launched official preparations for the the Extraordinary Summit of the African Union Comprehensive Africa Agriculture Development Programme (CAADP) set for January 9-11, 2025, in Kampala.
This extraordinary Summit under the theme "Building Resilient Agri-Food Systems in Africa " will bring together leaders to discuss sustainable agriculture and endorse Africa's Agri-Food System 10-Year Strategy and Action Plan. The
Summit is also expected to address key challenges in food security and agri-food systems. Leaders are expected to discuss solutions to land management, sustainability, and food security and other pressing agricultural challenges. Participants will explore strategies for enhancing agricultural productivity and sustainability across the continent.
The CAADP Kampala Summit is an opportunity to strengthen Africa's collective approach to food sovereignty and sustainable land management. By endorsing the Agri-Food Systems 10-Year Strategy, Africa will take significant steps toward climate resilience and food security.
The summit will serve as a platform to push for collaborative efforts in addressing land degradation and promoting resilient food systems. It will emphasize the importance of unified action in securing Africa's agricultural future.
