UGANDA-UAE BUSINESS FORUM OFFICIALLY OPENS
The Visiting Uganda business delegation, led by Uganda’s Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja was hosted by the Abu Dhabi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ADCCI) and was officially received by First Vice Chairman of the Chamber, H.E. Shamis Bin Ali Al Dhaheri. Bringing “warm fraternal greetings” from H.E. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, President of the Republic of Uganda. She described the event as one that underscores and continues to solidify the Uganda-UAE bilateral partnership.
The Prime Minister expressed appreciation to H.E. Ahmed Jasim Al Zaabi, Chairman of Abu Dhabi Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Government of UAE for graciously accepting to collaborate with the Uganda Embassy to host the 3rd Edition of the Uganda – UAE Business Forum. Stating that the United Arab Emirates is the number one market for Uganda’s exports in the Middle East. Hon. Nabbanja said that UAE companies have so far invested over US$ 3 Billion in Uganda.
She welcomed the collaboration between Abu Dhabi Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Uganda National Chamber of Commerce and Industry, taking cognizance of the fact that a Collaborative agreement has been negotiated by both parties and is ready for signature. Uganda is ready to sign the Agreement at a convenient date as agreed upon by the parties. The Prime Minister further extended an invitation to ACCI members to carry out a Mission visit to Uganda with a view to undertaking a road show in Uganda to gain knowledge about her investment and trade opportunities while establishing networks for markets for Uganda’s products in the UAE. She highlighted opportunities for Investment in Agro processing and commercialised agriculture and in agro value-addition, minerals (oil and gas) and tourism, as well as investment in healthcare and energy.
She expressed Uganda’s commitment to further engagements to explore opportunities for cooperation to promote trade and investment. In addition to several private sector players from both Uganda and the UAE being in attendance, the Prime Minister was also accompanied by Hon. John Mulimba - Minister of State for Foreign Affairs in charge of Regional Cooperation, H.E. Zaake Wanume Kibedi- Ambassador of the Republic of Uganda to the United Arab Emirates; Mr. Ramathan Ggoobi, Permanent Secretary/ Secretary to the Treasurey, Ministry of Fiance, Planning and Economic Development; Mr. Patrick M. Ayota, Managing Director , National Social Security Fund and Amb. Santa Mary Laker – Kinyera, Representative of the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
