In the interest to strengthen partnership and enhance synergies in the promotion of Economic and Commercial Diplomacy, The Ministry of Foreign Affairs under the Department of Regional and Economic Cooperation in partnership with UFZA undertook a one day training in the view to create a deeper understanding of the mandate of UFZA and the role it can play towards achieving the Ministry's ECD objectives Key among the areas covered included the role the Free Zones can play in the promotion of Tourism, Trade and attraction of Foreign Direct investment , Value addition, Mineral Development, Participation in negotiation of trade agreements (free trade agreements and Bilateral Investment Treaties), Market Access, UFZA Frameworks and Business opportunities among others

The training further focused at strengthening of partnerships and continued engagements with the Ministry and Missions abroad in attraction of Foreign Direct Investments through the promotion of export growth and import substitution. The Ministry delegation was led by Amb. Richard KABONERO Head of Regional and Economic Cooperation Department and the Free Zones Delegation was led by Ms Rebecca Nalumu, the Director Business Development and Investor Support at the UFZA.
