Uganda High Commission in Dar es Salaam celebrated the 61st Independence Anniversary of the Republic of Uganda

On 20th October 2023, Uganda High Commission in Dar es Salaam celebrated the 61st Independence Anniversary of the Republic of Uganda at the Chancery under the " Theme : Sustaining a United and Progressive Nation Taking Charge of our future as a Free Nation The Event was attended by over 400 Guests across the Diplomatic Corps, Government of the United Republic of Tanzania, Business Fraternity and the Ugandan Diaspora in Tanzania. In his remarks, the High Commissioner of the Republic of Uganda to the United Republic of Tanzania H.E. Col (Rtd) Fred Mwesigye emphasized on the historical and bilateral relations between Uganda and Tanzania. Key note among the issues highlighted by the H.E was the legacy of Mwalimu Julius Nyerere who played a crucial role in the liberation struggle of Uganda and Africa as a whole and Pan Africanism. Here, he stressed the need to continue with the unfinished work pioneered by Mwalimu and other founding fathers of Africa. Also informed that the Economic and Political integration was the permanent cure for Africa's weaknesses and Marginalization against global competitiveness. Through the regional integration blogs like EAC,SADC,COMESA and ECOWAS, Increase in the Volumes of Trade and Services among each other has significantly improved Also informed that Uganda is committed to its 4 major core Principles of Patriotism, Pan-Africanism, Social Economic transformation and Democracy through the NRM government. He re echoed the continued friendship, solidarity and cooperation between Uganda and Tanzania. The Ceremony was graced by Ambassador Stephen Patrick Mbundi, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, East African Cooperation of the United Republic of Tanzania who represented Hon. January Yusuf Makamba, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation of the United Republic of Tanzania. He congratulated Uganda upon the 61st Independence celebrations and hailed the historical ties between the two Countries during the liberation struggle and the tireless efforts of our first Presidents Mwalimu Julius Nyerere and Dr. Apollo Milton Obote. He further outlined the current opportunities for collaboration between Uganda and Tanzania in the areas of Trade, Tourism, Economic Growth and infrastructure to benefit the Region and Regional Integration. Informed that the Joint ventures in the Energy and Transport Sectors, thus the East African Crude Oil Pipeline Project (EACOP) from Hoima in Uganda to Tanga in Tanzania with its benefits once completed would boost both economies through increased employment, knowledge transfer, skills development, improvement of livelihoods and attraction of investment. Invited Ugandan Investors and Business Communities to invest in Tanzania to enhance the already existing brotherly and sisterly collaboration between the two Countries. He concluded by reaffirming Uganda's commitment towards the continued working relations with the United Republic of Tanzania
